Grid-Tied Inverters & Storage
Testing PV inverters, battery energy storage, microgrid controllers on utility AC, four-quadrant. What you are proving is conformance to interconnection rules before a utility will energise it.

Everything here is a timed decision. The source has to move the DUT through a defined envelope and the fixture has to observe what it did, within a defined window.
Where programmes get caught out
Timing accuracy is the whole test
Trip and ride-through clauses are defined in cycles. A source that reaches the level late has failed the DUT for you.
The RLC fixture is not optional
Islanding conformance needs a tuned resonant load, and its quality factor is specified — approximations do not stand up.
The DC side needs simulating too
PV or battery emulation on the input is part of the rig, and is frequently scoped after the grid simulator is already bought.
Where the standards have moved
Revision status changes what your report has to cite. Every note below carries the record it came from, retrieved on the date shown.
Your inverter is certified against UL 1741 SB, not against IEEE 1547.1 directly
IEEE 1547-2018 sets the interconnection requirements and IEEE 1547.1-2020 specifies the conformance test procedures, but the certificate a listing body issues names UL 1741 3rd Edition inclusive of Supplement SB, which incorporated those procedures. IEEE P1547.1a exists specifically to integrate clarifications and corrections identified during that incorporation. Order the test plan against the document the certificate will name.

1547.1 is four test classes, and adoption is state by state
The standard specifies type, production, commissioning and periodic tests. In California, Rule 21 requires UL 1741 SB certification plus Common Smart Inverter Profile conformance over IEEE 2030.5, and PG&E has required both of interconnection applicants since 29 August 2023. Elsewhere the picture varies by commission, utility and ISO, which IREC tracks. For the bench, the consequence is unchanged wherever you are: a conformance rig has to source and sink, and hold voltage and frequency ride-through profiles rather than step between set points.

Specifying a bench for grid-tie?
Send the clause you have to satisfy rather than a shopping list. An engineer will tell you what the rig has to do — including the parts of the programme this equipment does not cover.
