Replacing a discontinued instrument

When a product line is acquired or sunset, the model pages usually disappear with it — and the engineers still running those racks are left without a migration path. These pages are that path.

Each one says the same three things: what actually happened to the product, the specifications you have to match rather than the headline rating you will be tempted to match, and where our nearest equivalent stops. That last section is there because a replacement guide that recommends its own product for every case is not a guide.

On migration generally

The problems are the same whichever model you are leaving: matching the thing that actually constrained you rather than the thing printed on the front panel.
