IEEE 1547.1 is not an engineering opinion about whether an inverter behaves well. It is the procedure that decides whether a utility will let it connect. That framing matters, because it makes timing accuracy the whole test rather than a specification detail.
Trip settings are the easy half

Note the 0.16 second entries. That is roughly ten cycles at 60 Hz. A source that reaches the level late has already decided the outcome for you, and the failure is yours rather than the device's.

Driving to 1.20 per unit means the simulator must exceed nominal by twenty percent while still holding waveform quality. Rate of change of frequency has to be a programmed ramp rather than a step, and the device is expected to stay connected through it.

The resonant load's quality factor is specified, which means an approximate RLC network is not sufficient. The test hinges on the load being tuned to the stated Qf and the balance conditions being genuinely met — otherwise the island you create is not the island the standard describes.
The DC side is part of the rig
Conformance testing gets scoped as a grid simulator purchase, and the input side is frequently remembered afterwards. A PV inverter needs array simulation on its DC input; a storage inverter needs battery emulation. Both belong in the same budget line as the AC side.
