NH Research 9300 Replacement: What to Match Before You Match the Power

The 9300 went into a lot of pack-level programmes, and most of those racks are still working. What has gone is the documentation trail: NH Research was absorbed by National Instruments, NI by Emerson, and the model pages went with the consolidation. Searching the model number now returns resellers and rental houses rather than a manufacturer.
If you are planning a replacement, the important thing is that a 9300 is usually described by its total power and specified by something else entirely.
The substitution that fails at commissioning
What to actually specify against
- Channel count and per-channel current, before total system power
- Voltage window at both the top and bottom of your pack range, not just the maximum
- Sustained discharge current rather than peak — data sheets quote both and programmes run the former
- Regeneration efficiency at your real operating point, and the grid-tie terms your facility can accept
- Interim measurement capability if your sequences depend on periodic parametric reads
- Data schema compatibility, so historical results stay comparable across the transition

The model matters less than the habit: every line in the list above takes a number, and a candidate that will not put one in writing has already answered.
What a current-generation replacement looks like on paper
Two examples from our own catalogue, quoted so the checklist above has numbers to bite on. Both are specified the way the checklist asks — window and channels first, headline power last.

Read those against the checklist rather than against the 9300's brochure. The voltage window and the channel architecture are the lines that decide whether your qualification calendar survives the swap; the headline power is the line that survives the purchase order.
Audit the test code before you audit the hardware
The hardware conversation is usually easier than the software one. Existing sequences speak a specific command set, and 'drop-in' rarely survives contact with a test executive that has accumulated a decade of programme-specific behaviour. Audit command coverage first — it frequently determines whether a swap is a week or a quarter.
If you are not replacing yet
Archive whatever documentation you hold locally. Datasheets, manuals, firmware and driver packages lived on model pages that no longer exist, and reseller listings are not a substitute for a manufacturer's specification. It costs nothing to keep a folder and it is considerably harder to reconstruct later.
None of this is a comment on the hardware. Acquisitions consolidate web properties long before they consolidate product lines, so the documentation disappears while the installed base is still very much in service. It is a signal about who now owns supporting it, not about how well it works.
